When importing data into Streak using Google Sheets, the most common errors are missing data in necessary import cells (Box Names, emails for Contacts, URLs for Organizations etc.), data that hasn't been properly formatted, or values that exist in your Sheet but not in your Streak columns.
To import from your Google sheet, you will first need to setup your pipeline. This setup includes creating your Pipeline’s stages and columns to match the columns in your Google Sheet. For tracking specific data points, it is best practice to use custom columns (dropdown, tags, date, etc.) to standardize and organize your data, keeping it clean and uniform throughout your process.
"No Name Value Defined" Error
The "Name" column in your Sheet is going to be the Box Name in Streak and it is a required field. It should also be a unique value. If you do not have a Name in one of the fields in your sheet, you will not be able to proceed with the import.
How to fix this error:
Fill out the Name information, OR
Delete the row with that information before you continue importing, and manually add/import that information at another time
For more details on what a Box is in Streak, check out this article.
“Assigned To” Error
You will receive this error if you created a ‘private’ pipeline OR if the email addresses displayed in the “Assigned To” column of your Sheet are Streak teammates that do not have pipeline access.
How to fix this error:
Head over to the pipeline you are importing into
Click on the "Shared" button in the top right hand corner of your pipeline
Click on "Advanced"
Locate the teammate you are trying to assign boxes to via import and change their access role so that they have edit access
"Unrecognized Stages" Error
You will receive this error if you have a value in the stage column in your Sheet, but that value is not a stage that exists in your pipeline. You can tell the Streak Importer to create those missing stage values for you.
If you were expecting all the stage options to match, double check your Sheet values! The stage names have to be an exact match, down to capitalization. For example: if you have a "Lead" stage in your pipeline, but you have "lead" in your Sheet, the Importer will recognize this as a new stage.
If you do expect a new stage to be created, follow the steps below to create the missing value.
How to fix this error:
Navigate to the Import side panel on the right
Click the "back" button or click on "Advanced Options" to take you to Step 6
Check the box for "Create missing Stages"
Click "Next" and "Start Import"
"Unrecognized dropdown values" Error
This error is pointing out that you have values in your Sheet that do not exist as options in the corresponding drop down or tag column(s) of your pipeline.
If you were expecting all the options to match, double check your Sheet values! The options have to be an exact match, down to capitalization. For example: if you expect to use your "Espresso" value, but you have "espresso" in your Sheet, the Importer will recognize this as a new value.
Similar to the previous error for "Unrecognized Stages", the Streak Importer can create new drop down or tag options for you. If you do expect new options to be created, follow the steps below to create the missing options.
How to fix this error:
Navigate to the Import side panel on the right
Click the "back" button or click on "Advanced Options" to take you to Step 6
Check the box for "Create missing field options"
Click "Next" and "Start Import"
“Contact is missing an email or a name” Error
Streak contacts are individuals identified by their full name or email address. The same is required for a contact card to be created via import, you must have an email address OR a first (given name) AND last name (family name). You will map the contact related columns in your Sheet in Step 4 of the importer.
If you don’t have the contact information, it's best to skip creating a contact card. You can always create a contact manually once you have their information!
How to fix this error:
Fill out the Name information if you have it, OR
Clear out the contact information to skip a contact from being create.
Using “Cindy” as an example in the below video, we clear out her first name in cell C12. This information will still create a box for “JavaBelle,” but it will skip over creating Cindy as a contact.
"Cells have invalid dates" Error
This error occurs when you have text or invalid date formats in a pipeline date column. If you have a custom date column, the importer will accept data in the below formats:
If you are not expecting your data to be a date values, go back into Step 1 of the Importer and ensure that you have matched the proper columns together.
How to fix this error:
If there is text, you will need to clear out the values
If the date value is not in one of the above formats, you will need to correct them (you can always format your date column after the import so that all the values match)
